Default Logical mod for those with SRI

I will be receiving my K&N Typhoon Intake any time now and will be doing this mod to get the full benefit of the increase in surface area of the new air filter. By doing this mod you will be increasing your access to colder air by 60%. All you have to do is cut a little of the plastic covering since underneath is already open for you from the factory! I plan on doing mine pretty close to how the picture looks since the air flow would be more directional, but other designs I'm sure will still do the job I'm sure. Part of the reason the BLI is getting more power is because it has access to MORE cool air I believe. By doing this mod we will be achieving this goal without the risk of hydrolocking our engines.

Question

And what "MOD" is this? I see more louvers and slots, but where did they come from? Is this some "JDM" piece off of some CRZ-RR Mugen Spoon Top Secret overpriced one-off? I'm curious about this...especially since Takeda / AFE is soon to release their intake.

I think they came from Photoshop.

Just an option for anyone who wants to be able to fully utilize the increase in surface area of the SRIs out there. I photoshopped the idea to give you a visual. Just doesn't make sense to increase surface area and maintain stock access. I've done it on other cars of mine and definitely works. Just sharing what I intend to do when it comes in. I'm also going to include a few other vents on the other side of engine bay to keep temps down.

Yeah, roger that...but I think I'll fund some honeycomb mesh to put there so it matches the OEM bumper vent theme.

That's a photoshop picture too, but I love it and will do it! Thanks for the idea. The stock opening is just not going to do the job for the aftermarket SRIs out there.

Anybody with a dremel should be able to do this. I haven't looked what's under the plastic, however. If the tunneling underneath doesn't exist, this would be pointless.

hmm...the one i posted is not photoshop if you check the link as well, a Japanese guy modded it and done it beautifully.

And the air duct underneath is stock there so the only thing to do is unleash it, lol!
