Default HKS Silent Power vs. Spoon N1 Exhausts

So user aerodan and I had a chance to swap exhausts and just kick it this past weekend. I thought I'd share some of our impressions of both.

Appearance: The diameter of the exit on both exhausts are exactly the same. However, it looks like the HKS is just a little bit longer, so it sticks a little further out in the back. Weight, despite the resonator on the HKS, is roughly similar. The color on the spoon is much brighter silver which doesn't come out well in the pictures, and the muffler can is much wider. Personally, I prefer the way the HKS looks. The spoon also has a ~.5 inch wide hole at the bottom of the exit. Anyone know what that's for?

Sound: This is where the two differ the most. The spoon is WAY louder, in the cabin and outside, especially at 2500-3000rpm. Subjectively, the HKS might have a higher drone at idle. The Spoon has a much bassier, deeper tone while the HKS has a growl that, while still bassy, leans a little more toward the higher frequencies.

So far, I think we're both happy with our trade for now We both got what we want out of the exhausts, which is great. Had a great time hanging out. Anyone in the South Bay area? Let's get a meet going!

Nice review.

The hole on the Spoon N1 exit is for a silencer.

Had a great time hanging and fiddling with the cars dk! The HKS is working great and my s.o. thanks you for the quieter ride. Personally, I miss the N1 and go back and forth every time I'm in the car. I think GTHaus has it right with their electronic valve - click, loud! Click, soft. Maybe next year after I hit Lotto. Oh, it's for sure. I can feel it

The HKS sounds great at idle, then goes quiet from 2.5 to 3k, then a little. Howl above 4. I'm really happy with it and it's the right blend for me.

Wonder what it would sound like without that resonator resonating though

Anyone in the South Bay area? Let's get a meet going!
I'm in Hermosa and would love to meet up! I'm interested in changing out my stock exhaust so I'd love to check out the two side by side.

There's a meet at the living spaces parking lot every Friday in Torrance. I haven't been yet as I've been crazy busy but might be nice to crash (all cars welcome).
They've been having these for the last couple of weeks and I'm thinking about rolling in this week:

Team South Bay is hosting a meet at living spaces next to the south bay galleria. Anyone and any team is invited so come on by. It will start around 9 to whenever. Please be respectful to the spot, no loud revving, no burning out, and no mega loud music. Lets try to make this a weekly meet.
