Default In need of a rack CRZ veteran...

Ive been looking around the forums and google and whatnot for solutions to carrying around my kayak. I pulled the trigger on this.

Honda CR Z, 2011 Roof Rack

Hours later, Ive noticed a sentence that said this application is for skis only.
Which is weird... because all the parts seem the same as any other. What would limit it to skis exactly? Anyways, I thought id check here to get the scoop on that. May have to cancel my order :-/

I think it is just a weight thing. But it says they will work, you just need to buy the right attachment for it:

Thule Rapid Aero Load Bars - Aluminum - 47" - Qty 2
part number: THRB47

These ultra-lightweight, aluminum load bars attach to Thule roof-rack feet to create a sturdy, stylish roof-mounted rack system that is both weather resistant and aerodynamic. Accomodates accessories that mount in T-slots or clamp onto bars.

Features:

Load bars work with Thule Rapid Aero, Rapid Tracker, Rapid Traverse and Podium foot packs to create a roof rack for mounting various accessories
Mount a cargo carrier, bike rack, kayak saddles, ski carrier and more
Integrated T-slots make it easy to slide T-track-mounted accessories onto the bars
Also works with accessories that clamp around load bars
Elliptical shape creates a more aerodynamic system
Rubber stripping inside of T-slots keeps out dirt and grime while also providing cushion for cargo
Crossbars can accommodate the following, depending on the types of carriers and accessories used:
1 - 4 Bikes
1 - 2 Kayaks
1 - 8 Pairs of skis
2 - 4 Surfboards
1 Cargo box (with enough room to fit 1 bike beside it)
Lightweight aluminum construction is durable and rust resistant and takes up only a fraction of your weight limit

Thanks for the reply. I ended up getting this package.

Honda CR Z, 2011 Roof Rack

It is the same thing, with 1 additional part. The "short roof adapter"

It arrives Tuesday, but if anyone has experience with Thule and the CRZ and knows that I dont need it. I wont mind returning it to save some money :-)

Will post Pics as well when its done for anyone that cares :-P

Thanks all!

I dont know what the thule rates the roof's weight capacity, but the Yakima rates it at 35 lbs including the rack. It may be based on the weight, however I don't know what the weight of a typical kayak is. The other thing is that it would require tethering the front and backs to the corresponding sides of the car, but you should know that already.

Quick edit, 47" would stick out about as far as the mirrors on our car. I have 38" bars and they just barely go past the doors on each side.

Dam, never thought racks were so pricy. Was thinking of getting one for my bike(s).

What do you plan to carry on your roof rack? I have a Thule rack on my CR-Z and I use it mainly from my bikes. I didn't need the short roof adapter, everything holds really well. But it all depends what you want to carry.

I just installed my rack today. Im going to strap 2 44lb kayaks to it tomorrow and see how it goes. The Thule Website says that it can handle 100lbs max. The Manual says 80 something. Im hoping there is a little play in those numbers. Will have pictures tomorrow. :-P

Now you can really test the US weight limit ratings if you have somebody else in the car with you! I still think it seems like a little too much weight to have more than one, given the small size of our roof.
