Smile Rear view camera and monitor $70 new

Below are some pics. of the "Pyle PLCM35R" camera and 3.5" colour monitor.

It was $137, is now $70, free shipping in the U.S.
$21.30 shipping to Canada

Has 10 LED's for backing up at night, good resolution on camera, easy to install.

The mounting shown below are temporary until I can make a proper holder for the camera.

Note: The camera is mounted on the INSIDE of the lower hatch and looks out through
the hatch.
There is a 'pocket / hand hold, whatever, on the inside left of the hatch.
The camera is mounted on a 'cassette' holder and slides into this pocket, no car mods at all required.
I made a couple of calls to the shipper - "Qualitycaraudio". Tech support was quick and easy.

There is a protective film on the monitor that you should remove. This is not mentioned anywhere, the film really sticks on.

Product can be seen online at

www.qualitycaraudio.com

Look for the section 'Mobile Audio and Video' for pics and details.

Imo parallel parking this thing is awesome with the camera... you can get within an inch of another car without a bumper contact. Spots in san Francisco can be a serious pain.

Atleast back in the day when go over bumps in the road and my CD's would skip using there cd players in the car. lmao.

Looks cool. if it works than cool. Id personally like to have one mounted on the license plate and visable through the navi

Still - a great post.. What the forum is all about..

Looking forward to the seeing the final product hard wired and mounted.. A little concerned on how well the camera will hold up with the opening and closing of the hatch.. And I personally would miss the cup holders - gotta ride with the coffee in the morning...

Yeah, you may want to have the monitor switched with the +12V wire that is behind the radio that is powered only when the car is in reverse.

It's rather convenient that wire is there since the rest-of-world CRZ's get the backup camera as optional.

Either that or you've set up your backup camera to be on all of the time. I think those cheap backup cameras from China only have a couple hundred hours of useful life. That is why my camera is powered by the white backup lights.

As mentioned, the idea of a backup camera is to give a "to the inch" view of your bumper. All cameras are wide angle with almost a fisheye look, have some sort of grid for alignment and are pointed at a downward angle to eliminate the blind spot right behind your bumper. I think you will need to change your camera location, or possibly even the camera itself since the lens isnt wide enough. To me this just looks like a cheap rear view camera.

sorry to be blunt but as mentioned earlier i would rather use my rear view mirror than this. Granted, if it works for you, and it saves a wandering child, cat, animal that moseys behind your car right before you reverse than its money well spent. I just think it has some kinks to work out.
