Default PRM Intake (Final Product)

Hi guys, it you still recall about this intake, here is the follow up after long term testing (well, Gerry from PRM is busy on another project, not CRZ related tho, lol)

here is the old thread: PRM Intake Review

So, what's the news? It's in stock now! .........lol

OK, We bring the intake further towards to the air duct, improved fitment (improve bracket), some minor adjustment and here is the picture.

The Final product is much longer than the prototype which intended to breath from air duct as easy as possible. You will notice the rubbing at the tip of the filter, that's the result of the long term test on height adjustment/fitment.

Now the intake eventually sits closely behind/above radiator to prevent heat air directly suck into engine.

We decided silicon cone is still the best option to prevent heat soak and ultra light weighted.

It stays fairly cool (not hot to touch) in summer, in Toronto it's now 27'C or 80'F, So we are very satisfy with the result.

The estimated gain on power would be 5hp/ 6tq, reference from dyno on FIT (L15A) with conservative estimation since the engine is quite similar but the setting is different on CRZ (LEA).
Here is the "Honda FIT" dyno for your reference, sure you can find more by google (fit, s2000, 350Z...)

CAI/ SRI / heat shield.... whatever you call it, we don't debate it, because the intake is restrictive open in one direction, no one could perfectly avoid heat issue, CAI solution is not really practical for folks live up north (snow in Canada). This is the best PRM could offer us, cheers~

Oh, Gerry didn't put CRZ on website yet, give him a call / email is your best bet!

Definitely looks like there would be a fitment issue or really close to the hood when closing. Different angle be nice like directly from the front and the other side... Plus, there is no CEL problem occurring?

i'm most concerned about a CEL as well. what kind of prices are we looking at for these and is it obnoxiusly loud like some other intakes or is it pretty reasonable?

This system installed in my car for 3 months (the first post is April 19th).

No CEL, No light, Nothing went wrong in the past 3 months. Why would you think there would be a CEL problem?

Yes, there was fitment issue in the prototype, the original bracket broke within a week. So, we quickly diagnosed the problem.

The engine moves/shakes a lot due to the auto stop as well as IMA torque, the radiator shakes as well. So we slowly raised the height of the intake to the point that rubbing happened. So, the intake CAN'T sit on radiator, therefore we stopped extend the length right behind the radiator as you see in the picture. In fact, the intake is positioned above a clip/housing of the radiator.

I will take more photos about the positioning of the intake.

I owned AEM SRI in my prelude which loud as hell. This one the noise is reasonable, sound clip could be found in the original post, i might try to record another one if i have time.

I like the design. as in, its got the least amount of restrictions of all the ones ive seen. Im not crazy about the filter and would prefer a more traditional one like found on the K&N kit. the piping also has a few changes in size but nothing really a big deal. Can you take pics of the filter by itself inside the front and inside the back? thanks.

I think I posted on on your original thread which included interest.

Yes - would be great to see additional photos and agree with Whocares - pictures of the filter along with a any regurgitated description of its properties would be beneficial.

I too would be interested in this, just when outside of warranty period. Though it does look like it should be backed away another .5" to 1" from the radiator. While having cooler air is beneficial, I would think it would limit access to air that close. However I am no engineer.

Hi, i'm back, i don't have time to take it apart and take photo of the filter, but the idea is just like an inverse cone, the design behind it is well explained in the orginal post but i can't prove it, i'm no engineer too, lol. Oh, if you don't like it that long, it is very easy to adjust since they are just bolt clamps.

so here is the reference photo, you can compare it with the first photo i posted, this intake is not sitting radically high and no fitment problem now.

sideways

front

Cheers
