Default Just installed BLF CAI... thoughts and install notes.

First the pool, i may anodize the intake and am wonder what color i should anodize it. I have more color choices but these are the ones that i am considering.

Now the install notes.

Decided i would do the install last night, Over all took about 3 hours with me taking my time. I was in now rush and took a few breaks so you could easily do it in maybe half the time if you are in a hurry. This time is from when i got out in the garage from when i was done road testing the car when everything was back together.

first i would like to say i am very happy with my purchase and hope i get many years of use out of it.
I love the look of the intake and may end up removing it and anodizing it a custom color, or even just silver just to keep from oxidation in the future. Not something i think the factory should do because it will defiantly add to the cost that is not needed as i would expect close to $100 for the pair of pipes.

1) Have your radio code as you will need it when you reconnect the battery to be able to use your radio again.
2) I haven't measured the vacume hose as i have yet to replace it. But as per directions you are supposed to re use the little rubber hose that goes from the air box to the vacume hose. In reality it doesn't do a good job at all. They should have included a new hose and hose clamps to go with it. Mine will be replaced as soon as i can get a hose. You only need about 2" to do the job. They are already including about 3/4" of the hose to,my guess, protect the nipple in shipping but it is nowhere near long enough to use as the hose adapter.
3) there is nothing in the directions about removing the tube in the underside of the of the stock air tube before the filter. You need to remove the driver side wheel well to get to the last two bolts that hold it in place. The aftermarket filter takes the place of the lowest point of this this tube in front of the wheel well in the fender. The directions do say to remove the wheel well anyway but it was still something that i thought should have been addressed.
4) In the instructions figure 6b shows them installing the MAF sensor in backwards. All other photo's show it correctly but this one photo is backwards.
5) No bolts were included for mounting the mounting brackets to the intake itself. Hardware was included to mount the brackets to the body, just not to the intake. You are able to reuse two of the bolt you removed from the stock intake to mount the brackets to the intake though so no big deal, just should be noted as such instead of the manual saying mount with included hardware. I also added a washer on these screws to make a larger clamping surface.

Other than that everything went well with the install. And i love the sound of it.

On anodizing, if I had the option to get it in red, I would have. But silver is OK. However, it would have been nice to have red couplers! Blue is a bit off.

Install:

Did mine yesterday and completely agree with your comments. It probably took me more than 3 hours but thats because
  • It was hot outside!
  • Spend most of the time taking splash sheilds off (and putting them back) to figure out how to remove the intake resonator!
  • Spent a lot of time driving around town looking for a solution to that vacuum line problem. The stock grommet doesn't fit securely (although it seems to work). I used 5/16 fuel line and some clamps (3/8 would probably work)
But now that its in, it looks good and seems to work (I have an OBD II PID reading app and I am seeing intake air temp reductions- more after I collect some additional data).

Sound? Haven't really noticed it - but maybe that is because I have their exhaust too!

One other thing - maintainence. Maintenance will be a pain. These filters probably need to be cleaned every 6 months (my stock filter needed to be cleaned after 6 months). At least you don't have to pull the fender splash sheild to do that.

(And I never pulled the center spash shield - wasn't neccessary.)

Red would look good, maybe i can get black couplings? I;ll have to ask the vendor about that.

Hey Daveczm,

Thanks for the valuable feedback. It's details like this that allow us continue making better and better products

1) Good point, I'll get that added to the instructions ASAP!

2) Hmm, this wasn't an issue with the ones we tested here, can you e-mail us some pictures so we can address this for future customers. Shouldn't be too hard to get a piece of hose and 2 clamps added to the kit!

3) That should have been in there, I'll check the raw data from the step by step install instructions and see if it was left out on the final version. If we don't have it, would you be able to send us some pics to get it added?

4) Luckily it can only fit / be installed in the right direction, either way, we'll get the instructions corrected.

5) That one was just our shipping guy being a bonehead, those are included with the CAI. Would you like us to send you out 2?

Again, thank you very much for the feedback!

Glad you like the sound! What's the butt DYNO reading?
