Default K&N Filter Install

Hey guys. I wanted to share my experience in installing a new K&N filter in my CR-Z last night. I made a mistake of pulling the sensor cable from the air box when I changed the filter. I then forgot to plug it back in and started the car. Of course the dash instantly went haywire, throwing VSA, Hill Start Assist, and Emission system errors. I shut it off and realized what I did. I plugged the cable back in and guess what, the error still persisted.

I then put the old filter back in and started it, and it still errored out. I then tried pulling the fuse labeled "backup" to reset the ECU, but the error still persisted.

This morning I woke up at 5 am and began by pulling the negative battery cable. I left it out of a few minutes and after putting it back on and starting, the errors went away.

I imagine the "backup" fuse didn't reset the ECU and it took a pull of the negative cable. I read on a forum that that fuse might do the job, but I guess the CR-Z is different.

As for running with the filter, it definitely had a performance boost that was noticeable and on econ mode I got 52 mpg! Good stuff!

yea, pulling the negative terminal would be the easiest way to reset the ECU. pretty much all cars i've worked on, it was just a simple pull of the negative terminal

glad you got it working though. kudos to the 52mpg!

hi glad to hear it worked out for you mate.

i will give my final impressions now as i have had the filter for a good few days now.

performance has definetly improved a little. the acceleration and torque feels harder than before and the response is great.

im not talking big gains or anything but there is definetly some improvement and now that my ecu has had time to adjust to the filter it feels much better than when i first installed it. as said before the acceleration is much harder.

im very happy with this purchase and its cheap!

anyone still on the fence about this one JUST GO GET IT! its a very good first cheap mod

My K&N arrived yesterday and took less than a minute to install. Just flip up the four metal clips, no tools required.

Can definitely feel a differene in response. It SOUNDS especially good in Sport Mode at full throttle. That alone is worth the price!
