Default Dyno questions and add-ons

This includes an introduction. Hi! I'm from North Texas, and have been lurking for quite some time... actually, right around October, when I bought my black 6spd+navi.

I have a couple of questions about dyno-ing. People seem to be always asking about dyno charts after someone makes an addition to their car. Well, I'm ready (read: cash in hand) to add the P2R downpipe and... something else?

I love this car, like the windy roads that populate my area, but want just a bit more oomph. Extra mph is a nice plus. But I hate loud sounding mufflers and what not, so I think I'll start by adding just a K&N filter.

Questions:
About how much does a dyno run cost? As far as I know, there isn't one nearby, so I have to go relatively far to get a test done, and I may just say eff it and not do one. However, it would be nice to have some results to hand you guys before and after.

Second, for you Dallas people: know a good place/cousin/bf that has a dynamometer?

I apologize if this is rather long. The Sock.

why would you want to dyno? kind of sounds like a waste of money. especially after you would do a k&n Filter and the downpipe. I would say its best to save your money.

People who are dynoing on this forum are probably testing for vendors.

from what i know there isnt really a simple tuning option for the CRZ yet so really theres no point in tuning either. Most people use dynos for tuning.

if a part has already been dynoed (like the P2R downpipe) then theres no real need to dyno it again unless you dont believe the manufacturer.

If youre getting a part that hasnt been dynoed then you could use your dyno to compare it to the other parts on the market but thats only if you have a burning desire to or if you want to do it as a service to the forum.

if you add a bunch of parts then a dyno is cool to see how much power your car puts down overall. I plan to get my car dynoed after all of my bolt on mods are complete.

also not all dynos read exactly the same. kind of like a scale. if you're comparing your own numbers, then use the same dyno to get before and after results. but your results will almost always vary compared to another car on another dyno.

so if you do end up dyno'ing and its' 100 miles from you. it would be to your benefit to use that same place to dyno your car again in the future.
