Default T1R Side Mirror Review

We had a thread on this back in Feb that died out. Instead of resurrecting it from the dead, thought I would start a new discussion.

So, I have or had the EX heated stock mirrors and was somewhat reluctant to swap em out. A member here put up a set of T1R mirrors up for sale, and it just so happen my Paypal had some money in it from a return. Went ahead and purchased them.

Was a 5 minute extremely easy install. Even did it at night with just the porch/driveway light. Pop the stock mirrors out from the bottom. I used a flat head and gently pulled them off. They pop out fairly easy. Once you see the back of the T1R, pretty much a no brainer on how the stock and the T1Rs fit and are removed.

Took my dad back to the airport today - about a 1.5 hour freeway drive and I can say that I have no blind spots at all. As in the older thread, this is almost a must have upgrade. No more looking over the left shoulder just to make sure. 100% visibility on the left side. You can even keep the side of the car in the view for visual orientation.

The objects may be closer than they appear is absolutely true, almost to the extreme but you get used to it and if you keep the mirror to where you can see the left side of the car it is fairly easy to judge distance.

It is hard to make out cars in the left lanes if they are too far behind you which is no big deal, but with the stock mirrors you could make out what type of cars there were from a good distance during the day time, i.e., useful watching for police/highway patrol coming up on you. But, the rear view mirror will have to do that job now.

I'm not sure I like the blue tint that much. We'll see if it enhances things at night.

Bottom line though, There are absolutely no blind spots on the left hand side of the Car. Merging or changing lanes is merely a glance at the left mirror. No head turning required.

A couple of pics while driving.

This is the right about the spot where you loose the car between the rear view mirror and the stock left side mirror (depending on how far out you keep your stock mirror). As you can see, I have the side of my car in view and the car in the left hand lane is easy to see.

Full view of all left hand lanes. Well, OK, I am already in the left hand lane minus the car pool lane, but you can see if I wasn't, you would be able to see at least three lanes over..

Smile Re T1R mirrors

Totally agree with 'Scotty'.
Iv'e had my T1R's installed for about a year, Excellant.

I also have a 15" convex clip-on internally ($15), Also Great

What I like about the internal convex is that the centre part of the mirror is NOT curved much, leaving the rear view almost normal.
But the curve increases towards the sides of the mirror giving great side vision.

One more thing.... I rarely have anyone in the pax. seat so I move the pax. seat back and also tilt it back.

This way I have a clear view, both sides, through those little triangular windows.
Another blank spot now usable.

Enjoy.

Nice review. Thanks. I have small convex mirrors on my stock mirrors. They do a similar job but don't look as stock.

^ At Gordon

I have the upgraded auto dimming day/night/compass rear view mirror. Have a RAZR clip on convex mirror in the garage that I used on my previous Hybrid Civic, but the size of the rear view mirror (rounded in the back) doesn't allow for a clip on. With that said, with the T1Rs, don't think I need a Convex rear view mirror..

The blue is what got me in the first place. Works well with my Lunar Airblue 80 tint on my windows. It, along with my blue tinted Spoon convex rear view mirror, I do not need tinted windows to block the annoying headlight of a truck or SUV at night.

^ Yea - the blue tint probably works great at night .. We'll see. Since I already have the optional auto dimming mirror, Headlights in the rear have not been an issue.. But with that said, if someone doesn't have the upgraded rear view mirror, your solution might be a good choice...

But this is about the side view convex mirrors..

Does the stock heating element work with these. Living in philly we get a lot of ice storms and I grew fond of this standard option.

Nope, gonna hafta sacrifice the heating element.. I just tucked mine behind the bracket. How will the mirrors perform in the winter.. Would imagine as any other none heated system. Spray it with a bit of de-icer and hit the road.. With that said, would be great if T1R had a heater element..

I've had mine for about a year. Best functional upgrade I've made to the car. I was leery of losing the heated feature, but now I won't give up the visibility. (It helps that I have a garage at home.) If I ever have trouble with the mirrors icing up, I'll buy a second set and keep them in the glove box. Just swap out the icy ones for the second set.
