American Honda Motor Co., Inc., posted January sales of 76,269 vehicles, an increase of 13.0 percent, the company announced today. Honda Division posted January sales of 68,308, an increase of 13.2 percent versus January 2010.

The CR-V was the top-selling Honda model with record January sales of 16,339, up 68.9 percent, leading overall Honda Division light-truck sales of 33,455, a 48.0 percent increase. The all-new 2011 Odyssey continued to win new customers with sales of 7,022, up 44.4 percent, and the Pilot had a strong showing with 6,703, up 37.8 percent. "January is traditionally a challenging sales month after a strong year-end push, and we're happy to see strong interest in our light trucks and small cars," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. "With the top-selling CR-V and all-new Odyssey selling extremely well, we look forward to growing our business further in 2011."

Acura Division posted January sales of 7,961, an increase of 11.6 percent versus January 2010, marking the division's 12th straight month of double-digit sales increases. Assuming Accord sales represent at least a couple hundred coupe sales then Sonata officially outsold Accord sedan for the month of January. To make things worse Altima and Fusion outsold Accord as well. Things are not looking good for a car with a recent refresh.

Accord 13,456
Sonata 13,261

On the positive side there is no stopping the CR-V. Our CR-Z is up slightly over December as well.

Sales of 894 CRZs may not seem all that exciting until you consider that the CRZ was the only Honda model to increase sales from December 2010 levels. That looks like positive news for the CRZ.

it seems that the two best selling in Honda's arsenal are the CR-V and the MDX (Acura)... do we see a trend here??

agreed with TCroly about CR-Z's doing better, especially in a tough time/month... that shows promise...

Looking at the numbers I notice something unbelievable. The mid-large family car segment is down overall. Recent sales dips by the initial Sonata surge, Camry, and Accord are not all going to other brands. Overall fewer family sedans in this class are selling. Perhaps people are upgrading or downgrading. A CUV or a new compact like the Cruze.

definitely not going to the Cruze... did u see those numbers by any chance??

my guess is they go up to a CUV/SUV of some sort... for example, i know a lot of TL owners go up to the MDX...

I saw GM's statement on gains but no numbers for each model.

Adding up the family segment thou there is a couple thousand unit decrease over all month to month. I didn't see the Mazda6 numbers but I doubt the car is stealing many sales, Mazda looked down overall except for the CX-7/9.

Cruze is doing very well for GM. January 2011 sales were 13,631 units. Very close to the Civic. Looking back Cruze was only 5048 units sold in Oct 2010.

ok, i just remember the 5-6k number... i don't think the new civic is gonna have trouble trumping any of those numbers...
